During his many years of leading teams of engineers during his career, Terry could not help but notice some strong parallels between the way leadership seemed to work in the workplace, and how certain laws of nature might predict they would.

He also saw illustrations of some of these laws of nature when he read and studied the scriptures.  Terry put these casual observations into words when he delivered the graduate student commencement address at Indiana Wesleyan University in 2003 in a speech he titled, “The Thermodynamics of Leadership”.  The body of that speech later became the launching point of this book, “The Energy to Lead”

In this book, Terry looks briefly at the three laws of thermodynamics in simple layman’s terms and in the following chapters illustrates how leadership follows the same laws.  He also applies the same laws to help illustrate and explain his faith and the gospel message in a unique way.  Whether you are an engineer, a parent, a pastor or anybody wishing to grow in influence in a leadership position, “The Energy to Lead” will be a must have in your leadership library.

An  excellent book and most aptly titled.  The author is consistent and true to the full title which addresses the energy to lead and the thermodynamics of leadership. One need not be an engineer to understand the laws of thermodynamics as elucidated. The superb pedagogy is ever there as Mr. Woychowski is constantly applying those laws to social situations and spiritual realities. Having once been a  preacher, I was also impressed with the extensive involvement of scripture, and recognition of the absolute leader -- God. There are numerous astute and creative instances of teaching and weaving societal, historical and religious leadership which would be consistent with the laws of thermodynamics. Especially outstanding was the reference to God sometimes speaking in equations such as when He said Let There Be Light, and the author followed with the appropriate equation.  I would highly recommend this thought provoking  and intriguing book based upon the life experiences of  an exceptionally successful engineer, spiritual exemplar, corporate leader and humanitarian.
